Merci
We were deeply moved by the many messages we received from all over the world in the hours that followed the terrible attacks that took place in Paris on November 13.
All of these messages expressed a feeling of unity, beyond cultural differences. And this is precisely what differentiates us from the barbarians who perpetrated these attacks and from their sponsors: Culture.
Their plan is to eradicate all forms of civilization. Those who carried out the horrific massacre during the concert at the Bataclan Theater and fired randomly at people sitting in restaurants or outdoor terraces of cafés are the same who destroyed the Bamiyan Buddhas in Afghanistan and, closer to us, the historical remains of Palmyra in Syria.
These monstrous idiots dream of a world without memory, without heritage, without music, without books, without freedom of conscience, without freedom of choice, without education, without shared moments of pleasure.
Their failure is that they made us aware of what unites us across our differences: Simply and modestly, humanity, with a small “h”, which is completely unknown to these barbarians.
The messages from our friends from all continents expressed a sense of belonging to the same community, the community of the living souls. Our warmest thanks to all who worried about us and our loved ones. You have a large place in our hearts.
